Elegant Schwalm Butterfly Pendant 'Sherwood Forest'
It took six hours to embroider your one of a kind butterfly pendant. I started by stitching a tiny chain stitch along the wing's edge using hand-dyed silk by either Gloriana or Caron. This line of stitches then got covered with buttonhole stitch giving the wings a pretty pearly edging. During the next step I removed every fourth thread in both directions from the fine linen ground fabric. The formed grid was then filled with two different Schwalm patterns: Gefieder (feathers) for the bottom wings and Herzchen (hearts) for the upper wings. I carefully cut out the upper wings and attached them to the ground fabric. Thanks to the paper covered wire added in with the stitching, the wings can be bend in a more life-like position. To complete the butterfly, I added a bit of fluffy hand-dyed silken chenille from the Thread Gatherer. The finished butterfly was then mounted into a 4cm Dandelyne wooden mini-hoop. The pendant measures 40x45 mm and comes with a steel hoop necklace.
